Jokowi Signs Regulation On Hajj Fund Management

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed a
regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) as a legal basis to establish the Haj Fund
Management Agency (BPKH), which is authorized to manage the close to Rp 100
trillion (US$7 billion) haj fund that was previously under the management of
the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Perppu No 110/2017, signed by Jokowi on Dec. 11,
declares the BPKH an independent institution that is required to report its
activities to the President through the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Under the regulation, BPKH consists of two governing
and supervisory bodies.
The managing body has five members, who are
appointed and dismissed by the President. Meanwhile, the supervisory body has
seven members,
Jokowi's idea to invest Haj funds in infrastructure
projects was met with a mixed response from the community. BPKH member Anggito
Abimayu said the amount of funds ready to be invested reached Rp 80 trillion.
